Owlpane / Solutions / vs. Dash0

Moving from another tool · built on OpenTelemetry

Owlpane vs. Dash0: two OpenTelemetry-native tools, two meters.

Dash0 is OpenTelemetry-native and charges per million metric points, spans and log records. Owlpane charges per GB ingested. If you think in events, Dash0 is easy to reason about; if you think in bytes, so is Owlpane.

Switching, honestly

What you keep, gain and give up

Keep

Your OpenTelemetry instrumentation and Collector. Both take OTLP, so send a copy to each.

Gain

Kubernetes operations, SLO burn-rate alerts and Carbon (energy and CO₂e per service, endpoint and job) on the same telemetry.

Give up

Focus and pedigree. Dash0 is built only around OpenTelemetry and is well funded; we are a broader, smaller product.

How it works

Three steps

01

Add an exporter

Add one exporter to your OpenTelemetry Collector and your current tool keeps receiving everything it does today.

02

Compare

Run both on the same service for a week.

03

Decide

Nothing proprietary to undo either way.

Questions

Which meter is cheaper?
It depends on the size of your records. Many small log lines favour per-GB pricing; few large records favour per-record pricing. Measure both on a day of real data.

Where Owlpane is narrower

  • A younger, smaller product with fewer integrations.
  • No per-record meter, so you cannot price by event count.
