Owlpane / Solutions / vs. Bronto

Moving from another tool · built on OpenTelemetry

Owlpane vs. Bronto: two efficiency stories, different breadth.

Bronto is a fully managed observability datastore with long hot retention, sub-second search and AI investigations at low per-GB ingest. Owlpane is a full application observability platform — service map, Kubernetes operations, SLOs, uptime and Carbon — on the same OpenTelemetry ingest.

Switching, honestly

What you keep, gain and give up

Keep

Bronto if your primary pain is log search at year-long hot retention with zero schema work, and you are happy routing APM elsewhere.

Gain

Application-centric views: releases, errors with sample traces, service map, Kubernetes explorer, SLO burn-rate alerts and Carbon — not only logs, traces and metrics as searchable records.

Give up

Bronto’s advertised 12-month hot retention included at $0.01/GB starter ingest and MCP-first agent workflows tuned for always-hot log search.

How it works

Three steps

01

Duplicate ingest

Add one exporter to your OpenTelemetry Collector and your current tool keeps receiving everything it does today.

02

Compare workflows

Try the same incident: log-only search vs. release → error → trace in Owlpane.

03

Decide

Pick Bronto for datastore-first consolidation; pick Owlpane if Kubernetes, releases and SLOs matter equally.

What matters most

Where each platform wins

Primary pitch

Bronto

World’s most efficient observability datastore — always hot, SQL search, AI investigations.

Owlpane

OpenTelemetry-native platform linking apps, jobs, Kubernetes and carbon on one bill.

Retention story

Bronto

12 months hot included on starter marketing pages; built for search across months without rehydrate.

Owlpane

30 days on Team; longer on Scale and Enterprise — linked traces and releases in that window.

Search

Bronto

Adaptive indexes; full-text and SQL across logs, traces and metrics at petabyte scale.

Owlpane

Search-first logs and traces; metrics via explorer and dashboards; PromQL read endpoint, not full Grafana parity.

Breadth

Bronto

Unified datastore + dashboards, monitors, MCP and CLI for agents.

Owlpane

Service map, release safety, incident timeline, uptime checks, session replay (beta) and Carbon.

Pricing (public)

Bronto

From $0.01/GB ingest on starter marketing; enterprise tiers for volume.

Owlpane

Team $29 including 50 GB, then $0.35 per GB; no per-seat fee.

Questions

Which is cheaper?
Depends on volume, retention and how much you query. Bronto’s headline $0.01/GB is ingest-only marketing; Owlpane bundles platform features in Team. Duplicate ingest and compare totals.
Can Owlpane match 12-month hot search?
Not on Team’s default retention. If year-long hot logs are the requirement, say so — Scale retention or Bronto may fit better.

Where Owlpane is narrower

  • Shorter default retention than Bronto’s 12-month hot story.
  • Not optimized as a standalone petabyte log warehouse with Bronto-style adaptive indexing claims.
